Date Night...without the Hubby

I was listening to an old podcast recently that had this interesting idea of taking yourself on regular creative dates. I find creating a great stress release and helps keep my mood on the more positive side of the emotional spectrum. I imagine that the benefits I feel are similar to that of someone who needs to run everyday. Sometimes I have a lot of inspiration and I express my creativity in a variety of ways but there are moments when the well is dry and as much as I may want to draw, make or paint, my mind is blank. I hit the wall so to speak.

Just like every seasoned runner knows, you need to take some precautionary steps to keep you moving. So rather then a trip to the myotherapist or a new pair trainers, how about a trip to the theatre or escape to the countryside.

On my most recent 'dates' I checked out the Dior exhibit at the NGV. Although I dont fit in with the couture crowd I do have a love of colour and appreciate the detail and form Dior has created over the years. The way the collection is presented is an experience all in itself. I don't think there was a women in the place that didn't have somewhat of a 'Carrie' moment.

The Finders Keepers markets were just held at the Royal Exhibition Hall in Carlton, with over 250 independant art and design stalls, its a complete feast for the eyes. I felt like my Instagram feed had come to life after following a number of the different artists for some time. I would dare anyone to walk out without feeling the slightest twitch to go and create. Even the entry card was inspired. The next event in Melbourne will be for Autumn/Fall, if there was ever a reason to look forward to the wet weather, it would be this!

I am lucky to live in Melbourne where there is always something on that can inspire. If you aren't in a big city there is still possibilities all around you. The sun was out over the weekend and I simply went for a walk around my local streets with the intention to photograph the different flora I came across that was particular appealing. It was still as equally rewarding, not just seeing what nature can create but then chopping and changing my photos, simply playing for no other purpose then why not.

What experiences have you had recently that got back on the wagon?
